The
rhinos found in the wild today are distributed in eastern
and southern Africa. They also tend to live in habitats
that are on the verge of woodlands and need a plentiful
water supply near their herd.
The numbers of rhinos remaining in the wild today are as
such: African Black: 2500, white: 7500-8500, asian: 2000,
Javen: less then 70, Sumatran: less then 400. Hunting of
their horns is their main threat. A Rhino horn is worth
its weight in gold. The reason for their declines are overhunting,
slow breeding, elephants taking their hunting grounds and
the long rearing process for their young.
