On February 2, the Groundhog awakens from
it's long winter sleep, called hibernation, and comes out
of it's home, called a den. If it sees its shadow it will
go back in, and we will have another six weeks of winter.
If it does not see its shadow it will remain awake and active,
and we will have an early spring.
The most famous Groundhog Day Celebrations are in Punxsutawney,
Pennsylvania. This is also where the film Groundhog Day
takes place.
